The Sailor Professional Gear was introduced by Sailor in July of 2005, and is a black resin bodied pen that can take either a cartridge or converter. It is slightly heavier than its 1911 counterpart. The Standard and Mini versions of the pen come with higher quality nibs and 24kt gold plated furniture, as opposed to the smaller Slim models.

In May of 2008, Sailor released a high end ebonite version of the Professional Gear that had a woodgrain style finish. Three colored versions were also released at this time, with black end caps. Both of these styles were finished with a 21kt nib and rhodium plating. Four premium mosaic pattern pens were also released in this model at some point, with gold furniture. The ebonite version appears to have been available with standard gold furniture as well.

[edit] Nibs

Different nibs are available based on the size of pen. Slim models feature single tone 14kt gold nibs in either a gold or rhodium plated finish (to match the furniture). The Standard and Mini come with a higher quality 21kt nib that is two-tone rhodium accents on gold, or gold accents with rhodium plate (again, matching the furniture). Standard nib sizes are available, though tips tend to run a little finer due to Japanese roots. Availability of of more unique nibs, like Zoom Nibs, tended to vary by retailer. Some Professional Gear nibs can be found stamped with a "PG" logo instead of the traditional Sailor anchor.
