If you own a business or work for one, or otherwise make money off of fountain pens, please take the time to read the Retailer Posting Guidelines.
Penpedia is currently collecting information for articles and for reference. Everyone is welcome to contribute. Logins are all controlled through Penpedia.com. If you have not yet set up an account through there yet, please take the time to do so now. One login controls everything, so you only need the one account. Thank you for stopping in, and please e-mail the administrator if you have any questions.
At the moment, the best place to start is probably at the Categories page. The search box at the left will also get you where you need to go. Remember, there's a ton of info in here! The Help page now features an outline of the category hierarchy used by Penpedia. Also the links to the documentation below can prove very helpful, especially to those not familiar with wiki editing.
Know Your Pens
So, you've got a fountain pen, and need to know where to start. I'm glad you came here! Using the wiki is easy, and there's more info every day. If you are really into vintage pens, I would recommend you hunt down a copy of Da Book, as it can be an invaluable resource for many vintage repair questions.
Manufacturers
There are a lot of big name manufacturers out there, and it can get confusing. Who's good? Who's been around the longest? Your pen could be from companies like Sheaffer, Parker, Esterbrook, Waterman, Pelikan, and many more. Investigate or expand any of our manufacturer pages to see if what you are looking for is there.
We also have a Manufacturer Contact Information list that is one of the most comprehensive on the net. This can be very helpful in locating someone to talk to about a warrantee repair or nib swap.
Parts of the Pen
Do you know what size sac you need? Maybe you need information on Crescent Fillers, or want to study up on feeds and sections. Any of our Parts pages could be a good starting place for you to learn all the ins and outs. Perhaps instead you need some specific information, like on the Esterbrook Renew Point System. It's here!
Specific Pens
Are Esterbrook J pens confusing you to no end? Do you want to find out what makes a Parker 51 so great? Maybe you are curious about the Fountain Pen Network Limited Edition Pen, or the Bexley Simplicity that it was based on? Sheaffer Snorkels or the Sheaffer Pen For Men Line are certainly collector favorites worth learning about. Finding a pen profile could yield new or valuable information for you, or maybe you can contribute some little known fact!
Getting started
This information is a good place to read up on how to generally use, and particularly edit, Penpedia. We are a MediaWiki shop, and if that means nothing to you, then look at Wikipedia. We are set up the same in terms of the software making things work, so if you know how to get around there, you'll be fine here.
