From Penpedia
Kyugoro Sakata is the founder of Sailor Pen Company, in Hiroshima, Japan...
In 1911, Mr. Kyugoro Sakata, a well-respected and accomplished engineer living in Hiroshima, Japan was introduced for the very first time to a fountain pen... demonstrated by a British sailor who was visiting Japan at the time. Mr. Sakata was so impressed with the design, function, and technical aspects of the pen that he made the decision at that very moment to begin producing fine writing instruments himself, similar to the one that he'd seen. Kyugoro quickly became determined to create the most elegant, sophisticated writing instruments with the highest level of specification and perfomance available anywhere in the world.
And so it was, that the Sailor Pen Company began in Hiroshima, Japan. They were soon producing technically superior fountain pens initially for the home market. The factory still remains there, in the same location in Hiroshima, to this very day. Sailor writing instruments are now available practically everywhere through a specialized network of their distributors. They can be found at most fine quality writing instrument specialists and stationery stores all over the Planet.
The Sailor Pen Company proudly continues Mr. Kyugoro Sakata's traditions and heritage of finely-crafted, high-quality and expertly-perfected writing instruments. Today, the company offers each customer a unique variety of writing instruments that are well-known for their superior quality, performance and carry a very special lifetime guarantee for continued writing pleasure and excellence.
