About
My name is Michael Fienen, and I am glad you have stopped by Penpedia. I am an amateur fountain pen aficionado. Until recently, I noticed something lacking in the community that I hope to address with Penpedia. While this site will bring a number of tools and features to the mix, the primary modus operandi will be to provide a wiki to fellow penmen to use as a reference resource for repair, collecting, and dealing. The wiki is up and running happily, you can see the link above in the main menu. For you techie types, I chose MediaWiki to handle those operations. This is the same software Wikipedia uses, so it promises to remain flexible and more than robust enough for any of our needs.
It’s important to note that this site will only ever be as good as the community that builds it. My pool of knowledge only skims the surface of what is available out there, and to make this useful, we’ll need everyone’s different areas of expertise combined. I will, however, effort to research and write as much as possible to fill voids that aren’t being addressed. I’m also handling the editing of articles that are entered by others. If things start taking off, I’ll very likely bring on some “official” editors and writers to manage some of the load. For now though, even the most minor of additions can be very helpful, so don’t be afraid to contribute whatever you know, however trivial you might think it is.
I hope you find value in the service being provided here. I also hope that value is translated into you being able to give something back to the community. And more than that, I hope you enjoy yourself!
